Robert Brakel & Associates was a family owned business that became the largest and most respected Canadian sales tax recovery and advisory service business. The Company’s client base spanned over 1,500 organizations in both the public and private sector and included a broad range of industries.
NewPoint was engaged as the exclusive financial advisor to assist in the sale of the business. Given the proprietary nature of the business, confidentiality was of paramount importance. As such, a narrowly targeted set of strategic buyers from outside Canada and a number of North American financial buyers were approached. NewPoint took the lead role in managing the process, providing limited access to management and tailoring information to each interested party’s needs.
As a result of the disciplined process NewPoint conducted, the business was divested in a timely fashion that resulted in the family receiving a favourable value for their interest. The buyer, Ryan & Co., a US strategic party, represented an ideal succession as it enabled the business and employees to continue and build upon its leadership position in the market.
